Sandpipers Panorama

I believe this a small flock of Great Knot (Calidris tenuirostris) captured on a remote beach near Cairns.

Great Knots are actually critically endangered. They are one of many species which migrate between Australia and Siberia. They come to Australia for the northern winter and return to Siberia to breed over the northern Summer. They are endangered due to habitat destruction, due to population and economic growth, and climate change.
